Happy Mother's Day

Since I have had my second bambino and am back in survival mode, and since I have met so many more amazing mommies, I decided that a re-do of my first Mother's Day post was in order. I also feel like we need to be wishing each other a happy Mother's Day and not waiting for our kids or partners to do it. We are the only ones who get it for real. We should be the ones to support each other. So here we go again...

Happy Mother's Day to the moms who are growing their first, second, third, or fourth babies in their cozy little bellies. Or your twentieth. Who cares? You are soon going to find out that your heart can double, or triple, and if it's not your first child, you're going to learn all over again that you have the capacity to love another person so much more than you ever imagined. Sometimes you can't believe that you could love another child as much as you love the ones you have, but you can. Trust me. It's incredible.

Happy Mother's Day to the moms who didn't grow their babies in their bellies, but grew them in their hearts and flew or drove all the way to wherever to meet the child that was always meant to be theirs. They wished for you for a long time, and trust me, you are everything they dreamed you would be. Even if they were only tiny when you picked them up, every baby's heart knows its true mother. That is you.

Happy Mother's Day to the moms who wanted a baby so badly, but couldn't conceive the "old fashioned way". Specifically if you, I don't know, flew all the way to Calgary for IVF. You are so lucky to have such sweet babies, and they are just as lucky to have you as their mommy. Science is amazing, and even though I never had to use it, I am so thankful that it can help create such beautiful families.

Happy Mother's Day to the moms who lost their babies. Whether it was at 6 weeks, 9 months, or 30 years. Your baby is always your baby. You are always their mother. Even if all you could fall in love with was a plus sign on a stick, you are still a good mom, and this is still your day.

Happy Mother's Day to the moms who have cold coffee in hand and stains on their pajama shirt. Who are hoarse from belting out "Let it Go" for the 3000th time, and who can't remember the last time they shaved their legs. To the moms who are sleep deprived, who have an audience in the bathroom, and who have 35 pairs of stretch pants in their bureau.

Happy Mother's Day to the moms who are busting their asses to lose the last bit of baby weight, to the moms who lost the weight immediately upon giving birth, and to the moms who said, "F*ck it" and love their new body just as it is. To the moms who feed their children amazing, delicious and healthy meals all day, and then closet eat Cool Ranch Doritos and melted down chocolate and peanut butter after bed time.

To the moms who totally snapped this morning because one kid just kept crying ALL MORNING and just as things started to settle, the other peed in their pants (Totally not about me!). To the moms who had two kids in a very short period of time (or twins even) and who are now beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel. You can have a life again! Woohoo!!

To the moms who almost uncorked a bottle of wine with their teeth by 10:00 this morning (again, SO not about me!), and the moms who are having an unsettlingly great day with their kids. And of course, to the moms who are slaving away at work and wishing they were home with their kidlets. No matter what kind of day you're having, it's all washed away when they go to bed. If they ever do.

Just remember that everyone has a bad day (except me), but no matter how you came to acquire your babies, as long as you're loving them, you totally deserve to kick back this Sunday. Hallmark Holiday or not, relish in that shiz!

Happy Mother's Day to all of you. Now go wipe that little bit of shit off your forehead.

Xo
